Twitter Packs Goes off the Rails Quick →

what was the fuss over twitter packs?
chris brogan’s attempt at creating an easy way for new tweeps to find and connect with like minded people blew up and people threw their toys out of the pram about being on a LIST! still we allow ourselves to be tagged, categorised linked to and found be all sorts of searches so what’s the big deal? as has been said perhaps the way it was done was wrong (despite the best intentions) -...

social media and human behaviour
what do we do when a service goes down? twitter as example - recent scaling issues left service with down time (Shel’s open letter to Twitter)  what do we when it goes down? do we get a fix elsewhere wait for the service to come back what does it say about us as people? makes sense not to go to another service if only a short outage - get fragmented conversation - if anything is urgent...

when choosing social media services: - ensure you have complimentary services rather than competing ones (i.e. only one of each type if service that you actually use regularly) - don’t stretch yourself too thin Yes, sign up to many to test fuctionality but only so that you can a) choose which one to use, b) have a fal back in case the worst should happen.

This ease of access is key to accepting the technology but the fear is that we will become so overwhelmed with social media and...

is UFC healthy?
when you have a large population (such as Digg) maybe smaller populations then no - like Mahalo (where the editing team chooses what goes in) you start heading towards a private favourites list rather than a realistic representation of the current state of affairs
